Why
America's Test Kitchen rates it Not Recommended. The induction base (the Staub Dutch oven is sold separately) runs too cool: on low, pot roast was undercooked, "After seven hours, the meat was still pink and potatoes were firm." ATK's bottom line: "If you don't already own a Staub Dutch oven, we don't think this set is worth your money, given its mixed performance as a slow cooker and steep price tag." ATK's favorite traditional slow cooker, the Hamilton Beach Temp Tracker, costs a fraction as much, even before you add the Dutch oven.

"We loved the lightweight, nonstick metal crock and stay-cool plastic handles," and it "cooked evenly in every test." It "tends to run a little hotter and cooks foods faster than traditional ceramic slow cookers. We suggest checking recipes early for doneness." 3-year warranty; the Staub listing doesn't state one.

Does the Staub Precision Induction Multi Cooker come with a Dutch oven?
No. The base is sold alone and is designed for Staub's 5.5-quart cocotte, which you buy separately.
Is it worth it if I already own a Staub Dutch oven?
America's Test Kitchen says the base may be acceptable then, if you want to save storage space, but warns that recipes on high can run long and the low setting doesn't get hot enough to cook food properly.
