America's Test Kitchen's longtime favorite: "it consistently outperforms any blender on the market," with top marks in every blending test and a 7-year warranty. But their Best Midpriced pick, the Breville Fresh & Furious, earned top marks for mayonnaise, crushed ice and almond butter, and makes smoothies "just a touch less fine-textured" at well under half the price. Buy the Vitamix if you blend daily or make nut butters; otherwise the Breville does nearly the same job.

The closest thing to a Vitamix dupe: America's Test Kitchen says it "looks like a near-duplicate of our favorite model," and its tall, narrow jar made smoothies "that rivaled those made in our favorite models." Rated Recommended, not a top pick: its low and high speeds were so similar that mayo took two attempts, and almonds got stuck under its blades, needing frequent help from the tamper and a spatula.
