Why
America's Test Kitchen rated it Recommended with Reservations: it "had lots of promising bells and whistles but was harder to use than other models." Its attached lid stands up when open, and while searing "our hands frequently bumped into the lid, which activated a safety mechanism that turned the cooker off." It cooks well, slow-cooking included. But ATK's Best Buy, the Cosori 6-Quart, matched it on slow cooking, beat it on pressure cooking and ease of use, and costs a fraction as much.

America's Test Kitchen's Best Buy, "a stellar performer at a great price": it "excelled in both pressure and slow cooking tests, producing perfectly cooked beans, meat, and vegetables." Searing was a notch below the Breville, since "the darkness of the pot made it hard to monitor browning and simmering." Like the Breville's, its pot is nonstick, which ATK notes "won't last forever." ATK didn't test long-term durability, and the listing doesn't state a warranty (the Breville's is 1 year).

The smaller version of America's Test Kitchen's winner, also Highly Recommended: "It's a stellar pressure-cooker, and it also does an excellent job of searing and steaming food, cooking rice, and fermenting yogurt," and it's far easier to use than the Breville. The catch: "It didn't perform well as a slow cooker," which the Breville does well. Its stainless-steel pot has no coating to wear out. ATK didn't test long-term durability, and the listing doesn't state a warranty.

America's Test Kitchen rated the Instant Pot Pro Highly Recommended and the Breville Recommended with Reservations. The Instant Pot is easier to use and pressure-cooks better; the Breville slow-cooks better. For both, ATK's Best Buy Cosori does well at pressure and slow cooking.
Can you remove the Breville Fast Slow Pro lid?
It's hinged. Breville lists the lid as removable and dishwasher-safe, but America's Test Kitchen found it would have to be unscrewed from the base to wash in the sink, and the upright lid got in the way while searing.
