But ATK's Budget Winner, the Toshiba 6-Cup, earned the same top stars for performance, ease of use and cleanup and costs much less. Prudent Reviews, which also tested both, found the Toshiba's white rice slightly drier but still good, and called the Zojirushi excellent but "definitely not the best value." You're paying for stay-cool handles and a little more polish.

America's Test Kitchen's Budget Winner "made delicious, evenly cooked rice in all our tests; its cooking bowl just lacked the helpful stay-cool handles of our winner's." Its timer counts down the whole cycle, it "beeped audibly when a cooking cycle ended," and it "kept cooked rice at a food safe temperature for 12 hours." ATK didn't test long-term durability, and the listing doesn't state a warranty (the Zojirushi's is 1 year).
