Why
TechGearLab named the Mac its Best Chef's Knife for Precision Work, 85 of 100: "A Japanese-made knife that is top-of-the-line when it comes to sharpness and precision." It "was the hands-down favorite for the testers with the strongest knife skills" and scored 9.5 of 10 for cutting, to the Victorinox Swiss Classic's 8.0. But the Victorinox scored 82 overall for a fraction of the price, edging the Mac on practicality and ergonomics (8.5 vs 8.0 each), and TechGearLab's cons for the Mac are "Expensive, handle is short." Splurge if you have strong knife skills and want the thinnest, most precise cuts; save if you want one capable knife for everyday cooking.

From 1 tester: TechGearLab
TechGearLab's Best Value: "An extremely capable chef knife that performs nearly as well as much more expensive knives." Its textured handle suits wet or greasy hands, and it's rated dishwasher-safe, which the Mac isn't. It arrived less sharp than the Mac (213 vs 187 on TechGearLab's sharpness test, where lower is sharper), and its cons are "Looks aren't attractive, low weight can feel cheap." America's Test Kitchen, which didn't test the Mac, rates the Swiss Classic Highly Recommended.
