America's Test Kitchen rated Hestan's sauté pan Recommended: "This beautiful pan was a pleasure to cook in," with a broad cooking surface and flush rivets that make cleanup easy. But "For shorter testers, this handle was awkward to hold," and the uneven balance made it feel heavier than it is, so it scored 2 of 3 for ease of use. All-Clad's D3 3-quart sauté pan, rated Highly Recommended, has the same size cooking surface, scored higher for ease of use, and usually costs less. For much less, Cuisinart's MultiClad Pro matched the Hestan for performance but felt cramped.

"This pan browned meatballs evenly, and it cooked spinach quickly." Its 9.8-inch surface matches the Hestan's, but "It had the lowest walls in our lineup," so some food went over the edge when stirring, and it's 3 quarts rather than 3.5. "Due to its narrow cooking surface and high walls, this pan’s capacity seemed a lot smaller than the stated 3.5 quarts."
